Ecommerce sales up 30% in 2011

According to the latest figures released by IBM ecommerce sales are up 30% in 2011 with a best ever cyber monday and cyber friday recorded.

Interesting is the move in devices from traditional laptops and PC's to iPads and iPhones accounting for 11% of traffic up from 3% in 2010.

Half of dollars spent online at U.S. Web sites originated from work computers.

Techcrunch reports

"eBay also released its Cyber Monday stats, revealing that consumers in the U.S. spent two and a half times more via eBay Mobile this Cyber Monday than last year. PayPal Mobile announced a six-fold (552 percent) increase in global mobile payment volume compared to Cyber Monday 2010. And GSI Commerce announced a four-fold (374 percent) increase in U.S. mobile sales when compared to 2010."

Traffic and sales sources are the most interesting fact. Most shoppers came from online discussions and forums. This means while shoppers have the money to spend they are becoming much more careful in their choices and relying on personal recommendations more.

Whats Cyber friday and cyber monday ? Its the friday after thanksgiving and the following monday. Interestingly spending on the saturday and sunday of the holiday do not feature compared with the friday and the monday.
