Shopping safely online
1. always make sure the payment screen you are entering your details onto has a https:// prefixing the address of the site
2. always make sure you are still on the same url that you started on when shopping. Some sites will take you to a billing area in a sub domain and this is ok. Make sure the top domain is still from the site you started with. E.G www.ice.com shopping at https://billing.ice.com/ , where ice.com is still the primary domain
3. some store will bring you to another payment processor like worldpay or paypal etc to pay. Make sure the url looks authentic if not, get out. If I am going to paypal and the url looks like https://payments.paypal.com then I am safe. if it reads https://paypal.payments.com then I am not at the paypal.com site anymore, its the payments.com site.
4. if when you move to say paypal to make a payment there is a odd flicker on the screen and some redirect stop, dont enter your card details. Notify the store owner of what has happened.
5. Make sure you have the most up to date virus, firewall and trojan/spyware running on your computer.
6. When your card is comprimised its usually for 1000's of small purchases, this makes it a complete pain to recover the monies as the bank will expect you to fill out forms to list all the fraudulent transactions.
We hope this makes your online shopping safer for you.
