Joomla 16 lifecycle to be 7 months !

It looks we are getting a very short life cycle on joomla 16. The cre team have indicated we will have joomla 17 out in July and that joomla 15 will be supported for another 18 months.

This looks dumb on the face of it, but the reality is that 16 is such an advance on 15 that incremental updates to 16 are now posible faster than before. The 16 release took almost 3 years and now the next release is 7 months after the last one.

We can only imagine this release coming so shortly after the last one is as a result of a efficent core that will enable updates to happen quicker. 

 The real test will be in the numbers of components that will be ported to native 16 and that will still work on 17 .
