To allow users to create accounts on your Joomla 2.5 installation control has moved from the module as it was in joomla 1.5 to the component in joomla 2.5.

Go to the user manager and click on the configuration button on the top right.

It is possible to run versions of joomla core from 1.5 up on versions of PHP5.3+

There are some small edits that need to be done to rectify the error messages.

You can change this :

in : /modules/mod_mainmenu/helper.php

function buildXML(&$params)
to
function buildXML($params)

Beware not all your installed modules and components may be php5.3+ compatible.

This fix will work for the core joomla 1.5+ installations.
