Joomla

Urls will change

in joomla 16 as a result of there being no more sections , the url layout will chaneg and will affect rankings greatly if you do not implement a custom redirect list. This is a serious impact on established sites enjoying a high google ranking as they will need to map every url they have a ranking for at the moment to the new location of that url so as to have any hope of keeping their search engine ranking.

No more sections in Joomla 16

in joomla 16 there are no more sections, no more explaining to customers and cleints why the level 1 categroy has a different name called a section. At last some one saw the light !

Legacy mode in joomla 16 is now gone

This now means that all components and modules you use must be at least joomla15 native. This means the support for old core features in 1.0 is now gone and running sites with legacy mode will now be an even more riskier action from a security point of view.

Beware of Joomla upgrade 1.5.16-17

Beware of Joomla upgrade 1.5.16-17, not all joomla upgrades are good as we have seen from many posts on the web for versions 15.16 and 1.5.17.

Please see this posting for the exact details.

The new Joomla release includes a auto-plugin disable feature which can lead to a site experiencing unexpected behavior or worst case the site could go down.

The feature is aimed at keeping a site up and running and not returning errors that provide clues to ways to hack components.

To quote

"The behavior assumes that a plugin would always throw an error, being a missing file, however the error could be conditional and only thrown under certain circumstances. Depending on how the plugin works the conditions could be rare. Instead of throwing an error the plugin is disabled and prevented from executing under normal conditions. This can lead to a site visitor experiencing unexpected behavior or worse the site could go down."

joomla 1.5.18 is a good patch however.

joomla 16 now released

Joomla 1.6 has just been released and brings joomla into the enterprise CMS arena.
