The advertising standards authority has indicated they are looking at the use of testimonials on websites. It has now become necessary to do this becasue there are so many fake testimonals which are being entered onto websites. It appears larger firms are to be targeted first so as to make examples for the rest of the business community to follow.
If you get a testimonial from a client it is essential that you keep the original email on file containing the text. This way you can prove that the text is genuine if a future check is performed. However some cleints want to give a testimonial and have not got the time, they often say to the website owner , "write the text and send it to us to approve". It remains to be seen if the advertising standards authority will accept this as genuine.
