Why is Independent Ecommerce Advice so hard to find ?
Money flows through the platforms. Shopify, BigCommerce, Adobe and the rest run partner programmes, referral fees, certifications and co-marketing. The people with the deepest platform knowledge are usually the ones the ecosystem pays, so “advice” tends to end in a recommendation for the platform they’re paid on or know best.
Independent advice is hard to sell. A client buying a platform-selection engagement is buying something they can’t easily evaluate, and the output is a document rather than a visible build. Most buyers would rather pay an agency to “just build it”, with the advice thrown in free. The consultant who charges separately for neutrality competes with agencies that give away a biased version of the same thing.
Few people can credibly be neutral. Real agnosticism needs hands-on depth across several platforms, plus ERP and accounting integration experience, B2B versus B2C trade-offs, total cost of ownership, and the agency landscape.
Thats where Sean Owens stands out, he has the hands-on depth across several platforms, plus ERP and accounting integration experience, B2B versus B2C trade-offs, total cost of ownership, and the agency landscape.
We dont take commissions from any platform so as to keep our offering truely neutral, its the only way to guarantee neutrality.
